General Information
Grandpaws can interact with your lions in three ways. One of them is Pep Talk (to cubs that fail training), the second is Cub Interaction (upon visiting Cub's page) and the last one is Storytelling (upon visiting Grandpaw's page).
Once a Grandpaw is interacted with, there is a small chance of earning a stat point due to mentoring!
Pride interactions are affected by your Grandpaw's personality! Pretty neat, huh?

[CUBNAME] slowly slinks back from training, trying not to catch Grandpaw [NAME]'s attention. A huge paw suddenly knocks [CUBNAME] over, and Grandpaw [NAME] is roaring in their ear about their failure to train well today. |
Grandpaw [NAME] spots the weak little [CUBNAME] running as fast as they can from the training field in terror. [CUBNAME] dashes by and lets out a yelp as Grandpaw [NAME] smacks them across the rump in rage at their fear. |
When [CUBNAME] refuses to train, Grandpaw [NAME] corners them and growls that if he were still king, he would kill [CUBNAME] for being weak. Needless to say, [CUBNAME] is suddenly very enthusiastic about training. |
[CUBNAME] seems upset that they've lost the race. Grandpaw [NAME] spots them moping around and approaches them. He leans down, and you can see his mouth moving as he murmurs something to [CUBNAME]. They sharply gasp, then ask, "But won't they get hurt?", to which Grandpaw [NAME] chuckles and responds, "Of course. But it will teach them not to cross you again, won't it?" |

[CUBNAME] is complaining that training is too hard, and they want to leave. Grandpaw [NAME] roars at them to stop being stupid - if they want to be even one-tenth as good as Grandpaw [NAME], they need to think about their own survival, even if it means kicking up sand in the eyes of others. |
When [CUBNAME] loses a wrestling match with their sibling, they go around blaming everything and everyone but themselves. Grandpaw [NAME] drags them to the side to tell them about how he won all of his wrestling matches, and how good he was, bragging about all the victories. [CUBNAME] should do things like Grandpaw [NAME] if they want to succeed. |
When [CUBNAME] slowed down and complained about being hungry and tired, Grandpaw [NAME] boomed with his voice about how he never let himself lose, even if he was starving, tired, or hurt. [CUBNAME] should stop being such a baby and train harder, or they will never match up to their Grandpaw [NAME]. |

After [CUBNAME] failed in training today, you spot Grandpaw [NAME] whispering to them in the shade. They part ways as soon as Grandpaw [NAME] realises you're watching, and [CUBNAME] is suddenly all ready to try again. |
When [CUBNAME] is exhausted and concedes defeat, Grandpaw [NAME] snorts and tells them to be selfish, and that they should always win - losers die, and [CUBNAME] isn't a loser, right? With Grandpaw [NAME] looming over them, [CUBNAME] wants to try training once more. |
[CUBNAME] is pushed over by some of their stronger siblings, and Grandpaw [NAME] roughly picks them up and tells them they have to start being underhanded if they want to get anywhere in this life. [CUBNAME] proudly declares in front of everyone that they're going to win. |

Grandpaw [NAME] pushes [CUBNAME] over with a roar after they failed at training. Weakness isn't tolerated in Grandpaw [NAME]'s eyes, and he says [CUBNAME] should be happy that you're in charge, otherwise they wouldn't be breathing right now. It's enough to scare [CUBNAME] into begging you to let them try again. |
[CUBNAME] quakes in front of Grandpaw [NAME] as the old lion berates them for everything they did wrong in training, snarling at them and ordering them to do better. [CUBNAME] scampers over to you, sniffling as they ask for another chance. |
When [CUBNAME] slips and falls, they complain about hurting their tail. Grandpaw [NAME] roared and told them that if they don't get off their fat bum and try again, he'd make more than just [CUBNAME]'s tail hurt. |
[CUBNAME] messed up during training. They ran off sobbing, deciding to climb up a tree and stew in their misery for a while. Grandpaw [NAME], having observed the entire thing, claws up to their hiding spot and roars about "stupid ignorant cubs letting down the family". [CUBNAME] quickly decides they'd rather try training again than face Grandpaw [NAME]'s wrath. |
Grandpaw [NAME] sees [CUBNAME] sniffling alone and away from the other cubs after having failed their training today. Grandpaw [NAME] goes up to them and bats them harshly on the head, roaring at them to not cry over spilled milk, and growls at them to train harder. |

After one of [CUBNAME]'s elder siblings pushed them over in training, Grandpaw [NAME] took it upon himself to take [CUBNAME] out for training. No grandcub of his is going to let some stinker push them around. |
When [CUBNAME] claims one of their siblings cheated during training today, Grandpaw [NAME] pushes you aside to deal with the cheater himself. After berating them in front of the entire pride, [CUBNAME] is eager to try training again. |
[CUBNAME] got stuck in a tree while practicing their climbing, and wouldn't come down even after you promised you'd catch them. Grandpaw [NAME] shakes the age from his bones to climb up the tree and rescue them, and [CUBNAME] realises how childish they were being. They meekly ask if they can have another chance to train. |
Forgiving |
---|
[CUBNAME] is in trouble for fighting with another cub. They're making loud demands about never wanting to train with them ever again. Grandpaw [NAME] sits them down and points out that a pride can only function if every member agrees to work together with everyone else; he explains how it's beneficial for everyone. [CUBNAME] pouts, but agrees to give the other cub another chance. |
When [CUBNAME] kicks up a stink about training today, Grandpaw [NAME] pulls them aside to give them a few heartfelt words of encouragement. Although [CUBNAME] pouted the whole time, they came back to the training area and meekly told you they were ready for today's tasks. |
[CUBNAME] got distracted by a pretty butterfly during training and missed their cue to pounce. Once they realised what they did, they broke down and began to wail in front of you, thinking they'd be severely reprimanded. Grandpaw [NAME] hushed them and told them that everyone makes mistakes sometimes, and that [CUBNAME] can always try again if they want. |
Humble |
---|
Grandpaw [NAME] notices [CUBNAME] bragging to all the others about how big and strong they are, and how easily they'll beat the other cubs in training today. Grandpaw [NAME] sits [CUBNAME] down and tells them they must be humble if they wish to rule one day. |
When [CUBNAME] slips and messes up during training when they tried too hard, Grandpaw [NAME] gives them some soothing words of encouragement, telling them that they don't need to over-exert themselves to be a good lion. |
[CUBNAME] is too frightened to train in front of everyone in fear that their siblings will laugh at them if they fail. Grandpaw [NAME] explains that everyone messes up sometimes, and it's through mistakes that [CUBNAME] will learn and grow. |
Protective |

When [CUBNAME] scuffed their chin, Grandpaw [NAME] was quick to scoop them up and cuddle them until they felt better. Although [CUBNAME]'s pride was wounded, with their old Grandpaw's support, they're ready to train again. |
[CUBNAME] was too scared to train today after having a nightmare about it last night. Some soothing words from Grandpaw [NAME], along with a promise to fight off anything scary that came for [CUBNAME], calmed them down enough to give training a go. |
After some of their siblings laughed at them, [CUBNAME] stormed off from training. Grandpaw [NAME] forced all of them to apologise to [CUBNAME], who quietly asks if it's okay to train without them watching. |

[CUBNAME] trudged behind their siblings after they messed up in front of them all during training. Grandpaw [NAME] takes them aside and, by the time he's finished, [CUBNAME] asks you if they can try again. |
During training today, [CUBNAME] decided that they'd rather sit with their mother than do any work. Before you could take them aside, Grandpaw [NAME] sits [CUBNAME] down and tells them that they can't just sit back and be lazy, because they need to work hard, too. |
[CUBNAME] was a little too frightened by the talk of their adolescent siblings to train today. Some gentle coaxing from Grandpaw [NAME] eventually brought them out of their hideaway, ready to train if Grandpaw [NAME] was going to be there. |
[CUBNAME] refuses to climb up the tree during training, saying they just can't do it! Grandpaw [NAME] approaches them, murmuring something to [CUBNAME]. After he walks off, [CUBNAME] seems much more enthusiastic about climbing. What kind of persuasive skills does Grandpaw [NAME] have that you don't? |

[CUBNAME] wanted to stay with their mother during training today, until Grandpaw [NAME] came over and told them that it was okay to be scared - and that Grandpaw [NAME] would be cheering them if they went to training. |
After a tantrum, you had put [CUBNAME] in time out as punishment for acting out during training. Grandpaw [NAME] slips past you and drags [CUBNAME] to training, promising that he'll shape them into a pride member to be proud of. |
[CUBNAME] darted between your legs after being scared during training, almost tripping you up. Grandpaw [NAME] is the only one who manages to get them to come out, after showing them that there wasn't a scary monster in the grass. |
[CUBNAME] seems a bit down after failing during training. Grandpaw [NAME] comes over and tells them that it'll all be okay, and not to let it affect them too much. He tells them to keep their chin up and held high at all times. [CUBNAME] feels much better now, and strides away confidently, positive they'll pass training next time. |

After a long day of fruitless training, [CUBNAME] sits alone instead of sharing food with their pridemates. Grandpaw [NAME] offers to share a meal with them to cheer them up, and soon enough the two are all smiles. |
[CUBNAME] has a case of the sniffles after tripping over a stone during a footrace. Grandpaw [NAME] comes over and offers to help them clear any other debris from the area so they can try again. |
[CUBNAME] tried to stalk the other cubs, but it ends when a bird unexpectedly frightens them. Grandpaw [NAME] tries to cheer them up by promising that one day, the things that go bump in the night will be scared of them, instead. |

[CUBNAME] can't seem to get training right today, and nothing you've done has changed that. Grandpaw [NAME] boots you out of the way and slowly talks [CUBNAME] through what they were doing wrong, until they get it all right. [CUBNAME] begs you if they can try again, for real this time. |
After failing again, [CUBNAME] ends up lashing out at their siblings who didn't fail, leaving some very sour faces among your brood. Grandpaw [NAME] takes [CUBNAME] aside and tells them that alienating pride members is a bad idea. [CUBNAME] eventually apologises and asks if they can give training another go. |
When a frustrated [CUBNAME] ran off from training, Grandpaw [NAME] followed swiftly after them. After the rest of your cubs had finished training, Grandpaw [NAME], followed by a sheepish [CUBNAME], said that his grandcub just lost their temper and needs a little patience next time. |
After [CUBNAME] fails during training, Grandpaw [NAME] approaches the snivelling cub and warmly says, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again." [CUBNAME] sniffles one last time, then rears up and excitedly gets ready to train once more. |
After seeing [CUBNAME] fail during training, you find Grandpaw [NAME] talking to them. You're able to catch snippets of words, such as "second try" and "better next time". You decide to leave, a small smile appearing on your muzzle. You know Grandpaw [NAME] has got this. |

[CUBNAME] is so wound up about failing training that they lash out at anyone who comes near. Grandpaw [NAME] calmly sits next to [CUBNAME] and explains that the mark of a true king is one who can control his temper. |
Grandpaw [NAME] asks a sullen-looking [CUBNAME] what happened during training today. [CUBNAME] wails about how much they messed up. Grandpaw [NAME] listens intently, not daring to interrupt until [CUBNAME] feels better. |
When [CUBNAME] began to have a tantrum of immense proportions, Grandpaw [NAME] scooped them up without so much as a word and whisked them away. By the time Grandpaw [NAME] brought his grandcub back, [CUBNAME] had calmed down enough to try training again. |
You watch as Grandpaw [NAME] walks up to [CUBNAME] and starts giving them advice on where to put their paws. [CUBNAME] decides that climbing their old Grandpaw [NAME] would be far better than the cliff, but thankfully, he doesn't seem to mind. |

[CUBNAME] lags behind the rest of the cubs as they come back from training, tail low and looking sad. When Grandpaw [NAME] asks what's wrong, [CUBNAME] tells him that the other cubs won't let them play with them. Grandpaw [NAME] reassures [CUBNAME] that when they are grown, they won't need anyone but their own wit and claws. |
Grandpaw [NAME] takes [CUBNAME] aside and gives them pointers on everything they failed today. Although [CUBNAME] shrinks back in shame, they beg you for another chance. |
[CUBNAME] lets out a yell of frustration when they failed in training today, and before you have time to stop them, they run off into the long grass. You see Grandpaw [NAME] go after them and drag them back, ordering them to suck it up and try again. |

Grandpaw [NAME] tells [CUBNAME] to follow him after a bad training session that day. They look up at the stars, and Grandpaw [NAME] tells a confused [CUBNAME] that they need to let the stars guide them to success. |
[CUBNAME] is crying by themselves after a bad day of training. Grandpaw [NAME] sits alongside them and talks for several minutes about letting the power of the universe flow through them, and channeling the energy from the sun. [CUBNAME] is confused, but the older lion's voice is soothing and calm, and they are soon ready to attempt training again. |
Oh dear… [CUBNAME] has failed. Again. Grandpaw [NAME] gives them an energetic speech about the strength, power, and dedication of the rhino. See the rhino! Be the rhino! [CUBNAME] doesn't really understand, but Grandpaw [NAME] seems so sure of himself that [CUBNAME] can't help but be ready to try again. For Grandpaw! And the rhino, apparently! |

Grandpaw [NAME] takes notice of [CUBNAME]'s struggles in training. He sits down beside the little one and sighs, stating that it's alright to fail, but never show defeat, as emotions can show weakness. Keep it all in! |
After [CUBNAME] sprained their ankle during training today, Grandpaw [NAME] quietly scoops them out from under your watchful eye and helps them sort their ankle out. [CUBNAME] comes back some time later, limping a little, but ready to train once more. |
When [CUBNAME] began to wail after falling, Grandpaw [NAME] butts you out of the way and sits with [CUBNAME] until they've stopped bawling. There must be something about his uncomfortable face that makes his grandcubs feel bad when they cry. |

Grandpaw [NAME] pulls [CUBNAME] aside and gives them a quick pep talk - they won't grow big and strong like him if they don't succeed in training, after all! [CUBNAME] squares their jaw and is ready to try again. |
[CUBNAME] sniffles as Grandpaw [NAME] dusts them off and pushes them back to training. Grandpaw [NAME] huffs before shouting a bit of encouragement after them. |
Little [CUBNAME] hides between Grandpaw [NAME]'s legs after their siblings made fun of them for failing training today. Grandpaw [NAME] whispers some encouraging words into their ear, mostly about "kicking their tails in" and "rubbing their faces in it". |
Upon seeing [CUBNAME] fail during training, Grandpaw [NAME] starts ranting about how "back in his youth, they were built tougher than you ninnies!" |

Grandpaw [NAME] pushes a sniffling, upset [CUBNAME] back to the training area - and promises if they do well, he'll find them something cool to play with. |
[CUBNAME] is too scared to train today, so Grandpaw [NAME] nudges them and tells them that it's okay to be scared, he believes in them, and they can do anything. |
Little [CUBNAME] fell and scuffed their chin during training today. Grandpaw [NAME] took them aside to groom their ruffled fur, and [CUBNAME] seems ready to try training again. |

[CUBNAME] is slow and clumsy today during training. Grandpaw [NAME] takes them aside to show them how it's done - [CUBNAME] has gotta go fast if they ever want to be a leader one day like Grandpaw [NAME]! |
After [CUBNAME] loses a race in the training area, they've decided they're done for the day - no more training for this sore loser. Grandpaw [NAME] pulls them away and gives them some sound advice on how to be quick and nimble. |
When [CUBNAME] tripped up, Grandpaw [NAME] zipped over and put them back on their feet. Grandpaw [NAME] nudged [CUBNAME] with his nose and said they can try again. |

[CUBNAME] follows after Grandpaw [NAME] as he goes out on a patrol. [CUBNAME] spots an injured dik dik hiding in the bushes, and with a snarl, Grandpaw [NAME] orders [CUBNAME] to kill it, saying that there is no room for mercy in this life. |
[CUBNAME] ends up wandering a little too close to Grandpaw [NAME] as he sleeps. Grandpaw [NAME] snarls at [CUBNAME] and aims a swipe at them before they scarper to the safety of the other side of the den. |
After spotting [CUBNAME] push over one of their siblings in the mud, Grandpaw [NAME] pulls them aside and, with pride, tells them they should always take advantage of the weak. |
When [CUBNAME] starts playing a bit too rough, Grandpaw [NAME] harshly swipes at them, eyeing them ferociously. [CUBNAME] whimpers and flees, their tail hiding between their legs. Maybe Grandpaw [NAME] just doesn't like games? |

Grandpaw [NAME] spotted his grandcub sitting on the top branch of a tree, taunting their younger siblings that they'll never be able to get as high as them. He sneaked behind the tree and roared, scaring both the young cubs and [CUBNAME], who fell off the tree in result. Grandpaw [NAME] smirked at the cubs, and told them they will never be good at anything if they don't learn to be fearless like him. |
The cubs, along with [CUBNAME], were playing and making noise near the sleeping spot of Grandpaw [NAME] and ended up disturbing his nap time. He roared at them to get lost, then went back to his nap, grumbling about how he behaved much better than they did when he was their age. They should take a lesson from him. |
Grandpaw [NAME] was tolerating [CUBNAME] climbing all over him, until they pushed a tiny piece of his mane out of place. As Grandpaw [NAME] yells about "insubordination", [CUBNAME] zips past you as fast as they can, eager to escape their Grandpaw's wrath. |
[CUBNAME] is eagerly talking to Grandpaw [NAME], asking him for advice on how to be respected by others. Grandpaw [NAME] proudly tells them how he made everyone respect him by regaling the cub with some exaggerated "amazing adventure" from when he was younger. Yeah, right, old man! You were there when that all happened, and it's not even close to how it really went down. Not wanting to break the cub's enamoured concentration, though, you simply turn and trot off, leaving Grandpaw [NAME] to puff up his ego with false tales. |

[CUBNAME] darts around the den, laughing and giggling before Grandpaw [NAME] sticks a foot out and trips them up. [CUBNAME] falls on their face and begins to sniffle, unable to hold back the waterworks as Grandpaw [NAME] calls them weak and pathetic. |
After you told off [CUBNAME] for stealing a toy off a younger sibling, you spot Grandpaw [NAME] pull them aside and grossly encourage that sort of behaviour. |
Grandpaw [NAME] sits in the shadows with [CUBNAME], and you're just too far away to hear everything they're saying; you certainly heard Grandpaw [NAME] pass on some of his more nasty parlour tricks to his grandcub, though. |

When [CUBNAME] strayed a little too close to Grandpaw [NAME]'s personal space, the old lion lashed out and caught [CUBNAME] on the rear. As his grandcub flees, Grandpaw [NAME] yells about his personal bubble and staying out of it. |
When fresh kill is brought in, Grandpaw [NAME] doesn't hesitate to push over [CUBNAME] in order to get more than his fair share. |
Grandpaw [NAME] had managed to corner [CUBNAME] and was filling their little head full of nasty, vicious thoughts. At least Grandpaw [NAME] is bonding with one of his grandcubs. |
You see [CUBNAME] running around like crazy, before they turn and hurriedly hide behind you! Before you can ask what's going on, Grandpaw [NAME] approaches, growling and looking like he's ready to kill. When he asks you if you've seen [CUBNAME] around anywhere, you quickly point in the opposite direction. The old man snarls and trots off. You have no idea what's happened, but you can remember from when you were a cub that Grandpaw [NAME] is not someone you want to deal with when he's angry! |

After [CUBNAME] was pushed into the mud by an elder sibling, Grandpaw [NAME] was the first to pick them up and give them a bath. Even as [CUBNAME] sniffles, Grandpaw [NAME] gives them some good advice on what to do next time. |
Nothing would calm down the wailing [CUBNAME] until they were passed to Grandpaw [NAME]'s paws. The old lion smothers [CUBNAME] with his mane until they start giggling. |
When [CUBNAME] darts to Grandpaw [NAME] with a small rodent in their jaws, Grandpaw [NAME] tells them how wonderfully they'd done, and says they'll make an excellent hunter in the future. |
[CUBNAME] wanted to play "Lion, Lion, Hyena!" with their siblings today, but they were pushed out of the group and teased for being a little crycub. You were about to go over and see if they were okay when Grandpaw [NAME] arrived, telling the little cub not to mind the others too much, and that he would be happy to play instead. Brightening up immediately, [CUBNAME] clambers up onto the great lion's back and the two go off to play elsewhere, while Grandpaw [NAME] tells an interesting story about meeting a lion called Apedemak… or was that Apollyon? |
You see Grandpaw [NAME] giving some heartfelt advice to [CUBNAME] about how to treat the lionesses properly. The cub was listening well enough, which relieves you. In your opinion, they could definitely use some work on that subject! |

When one of the broodmothers told Grandpaw [NAME] that [CUBNAME] has a penchant for bullying, Grandpaw [NAME] took his grandcub aside. He made sure that they apologised to everyone they tormented, and told them to shape up - no grandcub of his would hurt others! |
[CUBNAME] threw up on Grandpaw [NAME]'s foot after eating something yucky. Grandpaw [NAME] isn't mad - he just tells his grandcub to trust their nose next time. |
[CUBNAME] ran towards their Grandpaw [NAME] with a lovely ostrich feather in their mouth, only to trip and completely wreck the feather in the process. [CUBNAME] is on the verge of tears until Grandpaw [NAME] picks them up and promises to find them all the ostrich feathers in the world. |
You see [CUBNAME] froze in place after they threw a rotten egg in the direction of another cub. It seems like they ended up hitting Grandpaw [NAME] right on the head instead. He lets out an exaggeratedly-annoyed growl as the gross, smelly yolk drips down his mane and muzzle. [CUBNAME] prepares to be smacked, but instead gets some of the yolk smudged all over their face! Grandpaw [NAME] laughs at the cub's reaction and pats them gently on the back before ushering them to a nearby body of water to get cleaned off. |

When [CUBNAME] is left out of playtime by their siblings, Grandpaw [NAME] decides to take them out to see the wider territory - so long as they behave and listen. |
After [CUBNAME] pushed over one of their younger siblings, Grandpaw [NAME] pulled them aside to tell them that bullying isn't going to be tolerated, and being mean to one's pride mates will only come back to bite [CUBNAME] in the tail. |
You notice [CUBNAME] seeking out their Grandpaw [NAME] after they had a nightmare. Grandpaw [NAME] lets his grandcub snuggle against him, grooming [CUBNAME] until they fall back to sleep. |

After some of your teenage cubs tell [CUBNAME] a scary story about undead lions, [CUBNAME] is so distraught that they've worked themselves into a panic attack. Grandpaw [NAME] holds them close and tells them that he'll keep them safe. |
[CUBNAME], a little upset that their mother went out for her daily walk, is sniffling and quietly sobbing where she'd left them. Grandpaw [NAME] scoops them up and pretends to nom at their belly, slobbering all over [CUBNAME] - whose sniffling and crying was quickly replaced with giggles and squeals. |
When [CUBNAME] asks their Grandpaw if he'll be there forever, Grandpaw [NAME] has to break the news that, one day, he'll be gone. Before [CUBNAME] can start to panic, Grandpaw [NAME] promises them that he'll be watching over them from the stars, and they'll never have to be afraid because he'll always be with them in their heart. |
Try as you might, you can't seem to find [CUBNAME] anywhere! You spend the better part of your morning searching through your territory, roaring and calling out their name in case they've wandered off. As you pass by Grandpaw [NAME], he softly calls you over and lifts up his paw, revealing the lost cub, who is… fast asleep? It seems they had a nightmare and snuggled up with Grandpaw all night. Grandpaw [NAME] decided to lend a paw with bathtime today, and was given the particularly cheeky and troublesome [CUBNAME]. Grandpaw [NAME] threatens to ground them if they don't start behaving. |
Young [CUBNAME] didn't want to play chase with their siblings today - instead, they decided today was a good day to take a nap with Grandpaw [NAME], who doesn't seem to mind [CUBNAME] clambering over him. |
When Grandpaw [NAME] got up for his evening walk, [CUBNAME] took no time at all dropping their toy to run over and beg Grandpaw [NAME] if they could go with him. |
As you prepare to patrol your territory, you notice [CUBNAME] spending some quality time with Grandpaw [NAME]. How nice. "Uh… where do cubs come from? Well… you see, little one, when two lions love each other very much, or like each other enough, or hate each other—" Wait, what?! You quickly snatch [CUBNAME] by the scruff of their neck and run away. They are too young to have "The Talk"! |

[CUBNAME] and Grandpaw [NAME] are playing on the outskirts of your pride's home. Grandpaw [NAME] is playing the bad guy, and when [CUBNAME] manages to get their teeth and claws snagged in Grandpaw [NAME]'s mane, the old lion "dies" very dramatically, flopping onto his grandcub, who squeals in delight and declares that they are the king now. |
Grandpaw [NAME] has pulled [CUBNAME] away from their siblings to teach them to be unafraid. [CUBNAME] is brave enough to leap onto a locust - and when Grandpaw [NAME] hollers and hoots about their bravery, the excited smile on [CUBNAME]'s face is enough to make you smile a little, too. |
When [CUBNAME]'s mother was out, Grandpaw [NAME] took it upon himself to entertain them until their mum came back. |

Grandpaw [NAME] was kind enough to entertain [CUBNAME] at the break of dawn when they woke up early. He goes on to tell them of the times you would wake up early and come tug on his mane to try and wake him up. It's funnier on the other end of it, Grandpaw! |
[CUBNAME] was sulking after being lectured by their mother for wandering outside of the den. Grandpaw [NAME] sits down with the cub and shares a few battle stories of his time as king. [CUBNAME] seems to be in a better mood after he finishes. |
[CUBNAME] has been pestering you about being hungry for ages, and when they turn to Grandpaw [NAME], he just grins and exclaims, "Hey, Hungry, I'm Grandpaw!" He seems to have successfully distracted them… for the moment. |
Having been picked on all day by their siblings, [CUBNAME] has had enough. Preparing to pounce on a particularly bratty cub, Grandpaw [NAME] swoops in just in time. He scolds [CUBNAME] for not showing forgiveness towards siblings. |

You've noticed that Grandpaw [NAME] has been spending a lot of time with [CUBNAME] lately. Grandpaw [NAME] swears that he hasn't picked a favourite - honest! |

Poor old Grandpaw [NAME] was resting away from the cubs for a reason today, but that didn't stop [CUBNAME] from bounding over and bumping their Grandpaw's chin with the top of their head in adoration before scarpering off. Grandpaw [NAME] stares after them as they scamper away, but whatever he wanted to say isn't spoken. |
When Grandpaw [NAME] spots [CUBNAME] sulking after they were left out of games, he saunters over and sits down next to them. No words pass between Grandpaw and grandcub, but they seem to have a moment of understanding with each other. |
[CUBNAME] is following Grandpaw [NAME]'s every move today - hopping in his footsteps, perking up at the same noises, even swishing and flicking their tail like his. Grandpaw [NAME] is keenly aware that his grandcub is there, but says nothing about it. |
Grandpaw [NAME] coves over and lays down next to [CUBNAME], flicking their tail over to draw the attention of the wild cub. Grandpaw [NAME] continues, giving the rest of the pride some time off from entertaining [CUBNAME]. |

You spot [CUBNAME] and Grandpaw [NAME] sitting near the edge of the den, staring up at the stars. Grandpaw [NAME] is indicating a lot with his paws, and [CUBNAME] is nodding thoughtfully to everything he's saying, though it's clear they don't understand a word of it. |
[CUBNAME] runs over to Grandpaw [NAME] and pushes under his paws to hide. When another cub comes over and asks him where [CUBNAME] is, Grandpaw [NAME] says he has no clue! |
Grandpaw [NAME] and [CUBNAME] are playing a game of cups together. Grandpaw [NAME] seems to confound [CUBNAME] every time with swift movements and sleight of hand. |
You hear [CUBNAME] giggling wildly, and trot over to take a look. It seems Grandpaw [NAME] decided to spend some time playing with [CUBNAME], and has now fallen asleep. [CUBNAME] thinks his snoring is absolutely hilarious. |

[CUBNAME] skips merrily beside Grandpaw [NAME], chattering away about how hungry they are. They want a zebra, and a hippo, and an antelope, maybe a kudu, and how about a dik dik for dessert? Grandpaw [NAME] quirks a brow and smirks slightly. "EMOTION!" cries the cub, to which Grandpaw simply says, "No." |
[CUBNAME] has dragged their Grandpaw [NAME] into officiating a staring contest between them and their rival. In the end, Grandpaw [NAME] declares himself the unblinking winner after both cubs blink at the same time. |
Grandpaw [NAME] was probably hoping to get in a nap before the day got too hot, only for [CUBNAME] to pounce on him. Grandpaw [NAME] doesn't make a fuss, or even do so much as complain, and eventually he and his grandcub are both snoozing in the shade. |

[CUBNAME] prances about with their Grandpaw, head held high. Old Grandpaw [NAME] is telling everyone how great [CUBNAME] is, and what a fantastic pride member they'll be when they grow up. |
[CUBNAME] prances over to Grandpaw [NAME] with a small rat in their jaws. Grandpaw [NAME] proudly declares [CUBNAME] the best hunter in the pride, and his absolute favourite grandcub. |
Grandpaw [NAME] pulls [CUBNAME] aside to berate them after they misbehaved. You catch bits and pieces of what he says, including "back in my day" and "my mother would have skinned me for that". Never change, old man. |

[CUBNAME] is playing hide and seek with Grandpaw [NAME]. When [CUBNAME] spots him and pounces, Grandpaw [NAME] "dies" with a valiant and over-dramatic hero's death. |
When [CUBNAME] let out a shrill scream after spotting a snake near their favourite sunning spot, Grandpaw [NAME] was the first to dash over and save the day. |
[CUBNAME] got left out during playtime today after spraining their ankle during training. Grandpaw [NAME] has spent the day with them, and promised to take them out on a cool walk to all the neat places on the territory when [CUBNAME] feels better. |

Instead of relaxing today like Grandpaw [NAME] had promised you, you spot him running circles around [CUBNAME], taunting his grandcub every time they almost get him. |
[CUBNAME] wants to race Grandpaw [NAME], and dashes away for a head start. Grandpaw [NAME] pretends to try hard to catch [CUBNAME], but lets them win by a nose. |
Grandpaw [NAME] has been handed one of his grandcubs, who seems to have inherited his non-stop energy. [CUBNAME] and Grandpaw [NAME] proceed to have a conversation that's so fast, no one else can understand a thing. |
You see [CUBNAME] playing tag with Grandpaw [NAME]. Aww, look at those two go! … Wow, did Grandpaw [NAME] actually manage to exhaust a full-energy cub this fast? … And now it looks like he's trying to race with a cheetah. You shake your head. Seems like some things never change, no matter how old he gets. |
You see Grandpaw [NAME] running around, excitedly playing with [CUBNAME]. The two of them seem to be having great fun, but how did he get [CUBNAME] exhausted so easily? You decide you'll need to ask for some advice from Grandpaw [NAME] later on today. |
Storytelling
Storytelling can appear once you open your Grandpaw's page.
Evil
Heartless |
---|
Grandpaw [NAME] corners a small group of his grandcubs as he tells them a story about how he used to kill cubs that were not strong, nor worthy of his pride's name. The cubs nearby all tremble slightly, trying their best to show their Grandpaw [NAME] how strong and brave they are. |
Several cubs ask Grandpaw [NAME] for a bedtime story. Grandpaw [NAME] agrees, and tells them in great detail about the many lions he has slain. The cubs are very quiet for the rest of the night. |
Saddled with story time, Grandpaw [NAME] takes some delight in telling his grandcubs about the magical stone that he sent so many lions to in order to please Apedemak. "One touch is all it takes," he purrs. "Don't you wonder how painful it is to die?" |
Self-Absorbed |
---|
You see Grandpaw [NAME] sitting in his usual spot with a bunch of cubs around him, listening in awe how he fought and won against all of the challengers in the Championships. He goes on and on about how well he fought, and how his opponents didn't stand a chance. Of course, he doesn't say anything about the fact that he cheated half of the time. |
One of the cubs asked Grandpaw [NAME] about his younger years. It's been hours and the cubs are still there, listening to Grandpaw [NAME] explain how he wooed all of the ladies, hunted alone for his entire pride, fought elephants and rhinos, killed humans invading his territory… It doesn't seem like he's going to stop anytime soon. |
You can tell by the looks on the faces of the cubs that Grandpaw [NAME] has cornered that they're all bored and looking for an escape. "I single-handedly saved not just our pridelands, but all surrounding pridelands, from a foolish war between two self-absorbed, uppity, air-headed, so-called gods…" |
Grandpaw [NAME] wants to tell you all about his exciting adventures back when he was younger. "Back in MY day, we had to walk five miles through the snow to catch a single gazelle!" Yes, Grandpaw. Of course, Grandpaw. It hardly snows in Africa, Grandpaw, but sure. "Back in MY day, we had to…" You end up dozing off as he begins another tale. Whoops. When you wake up, Grandpaw [NAME] is still recounting his amazing tale of how he killed that rhino. Or whatever. You're not really paying attention at this point. |
Unscrupulous |
---|
Gathering as many cubs as he can, Grandpaw [NAME] tells them about the championships, and how he rose to be the champion above everyone else. It takes all the self-control you have to not run over and tell your cubs that their beloved Grandpaw cheated at every turn. |
"Bad and naughty cubs get sent to the Celestial Stone to atone for their sins," Grandpaw [NAME] grins toothily. When asked what the Celestial Stone was, his grin grows darker. "It's where I sent away all the little cubs who weren't good enough. They were turned into stardust. When you get turned into stardust, you die. Slowly… painfully… and all for my benefit." |
To terrify the cubs tonight, Grandpaw [NAME] tells them about the demons that he made friends with - and tells the cubs that the demons use cub bones as toothpicks, and play games with cub eyeballs. |
Vicious |
---|
"You should be glad I'm not the king," Grandpaw [NAME] snorts lazily. "I didn't tolerate weakness, or ugliness. Back in my day, ugly, weak little cubs would be killed before they had a chance to take their first breaths. Your father is lucky to be alive, as are all of you." |
Although the cubs are a little hesitant to ask for a story, Grandpaw [NAME] is happy to tell them about the famine, and how only strong lions like him would survive. He recalls feeding his pride lion meat and rotting food to weed out the weakest, and ensure only his strongest genes survived. |
Grandpaw [NAME] doesn't hesitate in chilling his grandcubs to the bone as he tells them of the most evil lion to ever walk the land. He almost seems starstruck as he says that the evil lion would eat cubs for breakfast. |
Good
Chivalrous |
---|
After supper, when the cubs are all snuggled up together and ready for bed, it's Grandpaw [NAME]'s turn to tell them a story. Puffing himself up, he regales them with a tale of all the lovely ladies he'd managed to woo during the month of love. You can't help but snort as some of the younger cubs pull faces and wretch. |
"Every year, we welcome the shamans into our pride," Grandpaw [NAME] explains. "One day, you will be old enough to receive the blessings of your ancestors - it might be from me, or your mother, or a brother or sister… and one day, you will join the ancestors, too." The cubs around him are all paying attention, though some are more enthusiastic than others. |
Tonight's story has Grandpaw [NAME] acting out something he experienced back when you were a tiny cub. You end up sitting behind the cubs, distracted by Grandpaw [NAME]'s dramatic acting. |
Forgiving |
---|
The cubs look rather bored as Grandpaw [NAME] tells them an anecdote about how to forgive others, even when you don't want to. |
Lulling the cubs to sleep with another story, Grandpaw [NAME] tells his grandcubs about the time he helped save the pridelands from a terrible battle between angels and demons. |
"It's okay to make mistakes," Grandpaw [NAME] rumbles to his grandcubs. "We all make mistakes. I do, your old man does - even though he thinks he' s infallible," Grandpaw [NAME] winks at you. "I'll tell you about one mistake your old pop made when I was king…" |
Humble |
---|
Grandpaw [NAME] has gathered some of the younger cubs to tell them a story of his youth, downplaying all of his feats to make him seem a little more down-to-earth. |
"I should tell you about the poachers," Grandpaw [NAME] rumbles as he settles down with his grandcubs. "Humans are a strange thing - they think they own all of us animals. Many moons ago, they descended upon us in droves…" |
The story for tonight that Grandpaw [NAME] is retelling to his grandcubs is all about the Championships. The cubs are all enthralled - but you already know this story ends with your old man accepting defeat and not coming out on top. |
You walk up to see a bunch of cubs surrounding Grandpaw [NAME], asking him about his many heroic adventures. Grandpaw [NAME] simply chuckles and pats the closest cub on the head, announcing to the group that they don't want to hear some old lion's dull stories. |
Protective |
---|
The cubs have surrounded their Grandpaw, chanting, "A story, a story!" loudly. Grandpaw [NAME] relents with a chuckle and waits for the cubs to settle down, before telling them about his days as a king, when the poachers dared to encroach on his territory. |
Tonight's story has the cubs staring at old Grandpaw [NAME] as he recalls a tale told to him by his own Grandpaw. He says that, at the end of the year, when strange white stuff called "snuh" falls from the sky, a mysterious lion comes during the night and leaves gifts for all the little cubs in the land. Good ones get toys, while bad ones get something a little… smellier. |
"You must always remember to be kind," Grandpaw [NAME] says to his grandcubs. "Even to our prey. Never hunt for sport - only when you need to eat. If you can help something out there, then good things will come back to you." |
Kind
Candid |

"When I was a youngster," old Grandpaw [NAME] says to the cuddle pile of cubs in front of him, "My father and I had to save the pride from floods. The rain didn't stop for days, and our food got washed away…" |
When the night falls, a gaggle of young cubs who've just learned to walk clambers over Grandpaw [NAME] and asks for a story. The old lion chuffs before he gets into a cautionary tale of that one time you got stuck in a tree after you played a leopard in a game of pretend. |
"I should tell you about the time I met Menhit," Grandpaw [NAME] rumbles as the lionesses nudge their cubs towards him for story time. "She was a beautiful lioness; spirited and stubborn… and that's just the start of it." |
Confident |
---|
"I fought against a beast so huge and powerful that it would only need look at you to kill you," Grandpaw [NAME] declares in front of the enthralled cubs. "I fought back, taking every blow, knowing that if I failed, then it would be my pride that would suffer!" The cubs gasp as Grandpaw [NAME] carries on, embellishing the tale just a bit. |
When the youngest cubs wake up during the night, it falls onto Grandpaw [NAME] to lull them back to sleep. He tells them about a silly young cub who grew up to be a handsome king. You smirk and preen, thinking you're mighty handsome indeed, until he declares himself the star of the story. |
"When the stars begin to fall, little ones," Grandpaw [NAME] begins, wiggling his toes up at the night sky, "then the gods come down to be with us mere mortals. I'll tell you about one in particular - Apedemak, who went a little mad in the end." |
Fatherly |
---|
Your cubs approach Grandpaw [NAME]. One of their littermates mentioned that Grandpaw is very old and will not be around much longer. Grandpaw [NAME] sits down with the cubs and explains to them that once a lion passes from old age, they go to live in a starry dynasty where they will always be free to look over them and guide them throughout their days. The group of cubs look relieved and less scared, and they all take turns giving Grandpaw [NAME] head-bumps! |
Grandpaw [NAME] is telling one of your cubs about the time he fought off twenty hyenas at once. The cub is staring up at him in awe and wonder, but a passing older lioness rolls her eyes. It was five hyenas, tops. |
Patient |
---|
Grandpaw [NAME] loves telling stories to the cubs. He makes sure they're all sat comfortably before opening up with one of his cautionary tales. You fondly remember being told this same story when you were a spritely little cub. |
To teach the cubs about the virtue of patience, Grandpaw [NAME] takes them aside and teaches them about the circle of life… and the birds and the bees, apparently, which has the cubs all making a variety of disgusted noises. |
"When someone you love dies," Grandpaw [NAME] begins, and you think to yourself that he certainly isn't pulling any swipes with this story today, "I know you'll miss them, but they'll always be watching over you. They'll always be in here, too." He touches his paw to the chest of one of his grandcubs. Immediately, the group of cubs all take it the wrong way, and begin to yell about that cub having eaten their ancestors. "No, no! It's not like that at all! Let me tell you…" |
Neutral
Even-Tempered |
---|
Tonight's thrilling story from Grandpaw [NAME] starts off with a curious cub that all his grandcubs seem to identify with, and ends with the cub dead after wandering away from the safety of the pride. No one is going to get a good night's sleep tonight. |
When cornered by a group of cubs for an exciting story, Grandpaw [NAME] shrugs lightly and informs them, "I have never performed any miraculous feats, my dears." All the cubs huff and whine about how boring their old gramps is. |
"Listen closely, young ones," Grandpaw [NAME] warns a group of wide-eyed cubs. "Do not leave the safety of the den. You will get cubnapped and die." A few of the cubs begin to bawl, and you wonder why you keep this old loon around. |
Loner |
---|
After being ordered to give the cubs a story, Grandpaw [NAME] sits awkwardly in front of them, hesitating to start. He begins one story, then decides against it. Another story ends the same way. In the end, he just tells them about how his day today went. |
"There is a place where lions can drink and become young again," Grandpaw [NAME] states, very matter-of-factly. "Or, they can use it to grow older." The cubs don't believe him, no matter how much he insists it's true. |
Grandpaw [NAME] flatly retells a story about horrors of the night, without all the bells and whistles you would have included. What a snooze fest. |
Mysterious |
---|
"Oh, this is a good one," begins Grandpaw [NAME]. "Once, I dreamed about a way that lions who live far across the savanna from one another could still communicate." The cubs gather around, oohing and aahing as Grandpaw nods. "Impressive, isn't it? It involved a pool of water, spider webs, and a rock heated in the sun. I called it… the interconnected web." |
Grandpaw [NAME]'s voice is soft and distant, his eyes fixed on the horizon. "Now, I want you cubs to remember something," he says. The young lions around him all snuggle closer, watching him intently, eager for his wisdom. "Whenever you feel alone, whenever you feel at your weakest, remember that your pride is always with you. You never walk alone when you're a lion - such is the power of the pride." |
Grandpaw [NAME] opens up tonight's story with an anecdote that makes absolutely no sense, followed closely by a fable of fabricated proportions, before he tops it all off with a legend that's full of buffalo dung. Your cubs all turn to look at you with confused expressions on their faces. All you can do is shrug. |
While you're busy mindlessly wandering about, Grandpaw [NAME] suddenly appears and utters a sort of strange riddle, before turning and scampering off. Huh?? Whatever, you never understood that old kook anyhow. |

Grandpaw [NAME] sat before a cluster of wiggling cubs, his expression neutral as he surveyed the group. "I was once in a battle of life or death," he proclaimed with a strong tone. "A pack of hyenas stood before me and a king from a neighbouring pride. They told us it was a competition of wit, will power, and composure!" He paused for dramatic effect. "First one to laugh… loses. I won." |
A group of serious-faced young cubs are gathered around Grandpaw [NAME]. He frowns, considering his words carefully. "Let me tell you cubs about something that my father told me. Look up at the stars…" At once, every head tilts back, gazes cast skyward, eagerly awaiting the wisdom Grandpaw [NAME] is about to dispense. There is a long silence. One cub finally casts an impatient glance at the older lion. Oh, no! Grandpaw has fallen asleep! At least the stars are pretty? |
Several cubs beg their Grandpaw [NAME] for a really cool, battle-filled story. Instead, Grandpaw [NAME] teaches them several life lessons with big, long, boring anecdotes that he made you memorise when you were a cub. |

Grandpaw [NAME] has gathered the youngest cubs and is enthralling them with a tale of heroism and drama. "I helped a lion become a god, once," he proudly exclaims, winking in your direction. "It all started when the stars began to fall…" |
A gaggle of cubs has swamped old Grandpaw [NAME], begging for a story. The tired old lion grins cheekily before telling them about the time he single-handedly saved a whole herd of buffalo from crocodiles with a broken paw. |
Your youngest brood is sat around Grandpaw [NAME], hooked on his every word as he entertains them with a story from his youth, completely and utterly embellishing everything he did. |

To entertain the cubs during bath time, Grandpaw [NAME] tells them about the first time he went to the Championships. Even the lionesses are paying attention as Grandpaw [NAME] describes the hulking, rippling, scar-riddled lions fighting for the entertainment of the crowd. |
When a few cubs are woken during a lightning storm, they all run to Grandpaw [NAME], who soothes their fear with the story of how thunder and lightning is the roar of the great Apollyon. |
After a particularly cheeky group of cubs eats some nasty, rotting meat, Grandpaw [NAME] sits with them as they recover. He tells them of the time that he had done the same, and that they should learn to trust their noses next time. |
Grandpaw [NAME] seems to have caught some of the lionesses' attention, talking about a fight he got into with a pack of mangy mutts. He speaks of how he was so brave, and how he fought them off like a true lion. You were there, and the story wasn't even remotely close to what had actually happened… more of the opposite, really. You remember him running off with his tail between his legs at the mere sight of a single hunting dog. |
Hyperactive |
---|
You notice Grandpaw [NAME] telling a gathering of cubs about hunting… until he gets bored and suggests a game of hide and seek. |
Instead of helping the cubs bed down for the night with a nice old story, Grandpaw [NAME] has turned it into a game of tag. "It tires 'em out quicker than a boring story!" Grandpaw [NAME] laughs as he dashes past you, playfully pushing your shoulder on the way. You can't help but join in on the fun. |
"Oh, I should tell you all about this one time where I helped out two brothers! Or how about the time I smacked a god in the face?! Oh! I know! What about that time where I walked through fire?" All the cubs are staring at Grandpaw [NAME] with an exasperated expression. One particularly annoyed cub shouts out, "Just pick a story and get on with it, old man!" |
