Getting Started

So, you want to spruce up your beetles with some extra skins? Or maybe you'd like to make some extra money from selling off copies of such skins? Well, then! You're in the right place. Let's get into the basics first...

Before we go the process of creation of the beetle skins, it's worth having a look at some of the admin created guides, such as the Custom Decor & Beetle Skin Item Rules, the What Is Tracing, Eyeballing, Referencing and the ART STYLE TUTORIALS, .PSD's and TIPS threads. After you've done that, you can go ahead and get to drawing your Custom Beetle Skin!

An easy way to host your images online (including files for your Beetle Skins) is to use sites such as Imgur which will let you get direct links to your images for free. Remember that after uploading your files, you need to get the direct image link, ending with the format of your image, such as .png or .jpeg. Once you have links to your files, go ahead and skip to the next section of the guide!

Submitting Beetle Skins

Once you've read the necessary guidelines and created the beetle art you'd like to submit, you can now go straight to the Oasis and purchase the Beetle Skin Maker item for 1 GB .

Alternatively, you can purchase this item from Monkey Business for 1000 SB .

Once you've bought the item, go to your Hoard, then search for the name of the item, and click on it. You will be redirected to the following sub-page of your Hoard:

If you are ready, hit the "Create Beetle Skin" button, and let's go further!

You will now be redirected to another page, on which you may find more information about the Beetle Skin Maker. Below you can find the text copied over from the Beetle Skin Maker's page, in case you'd like to learn more but don't have the item to use yet!

Create a Custom Beetle Skin!

"You can create a custom beetle skin here! Creating a beetle skin will use up the item and the decor will go into an approval queue, where it will remain pending until it is approved or rejected. If approved, you will receive 5 copies of your skin. If rejected, you will receive a replacement beetle skin creation item.

All beetle skins must have an item image, larva image, male image and female image. The direction of all skins should be facing left. The size for beetle skins are 300x300 (pixels), with item images being 100x100 (pixels) respectively."

Rules

  • "No photographs or photomanipulations are to be used, including photos that you took yourself, or free-use photos.
  • No 3D images
  • No copyright or trademarked characters (ex. Spiderman, Pikachu, Digimon, Scooby Doo, etc)
  • We do not expect all submissions to be sterling art quality but we request that users refrain from submitting MS-Paint or pixeled images, or from submitting art that generally does not fit the quality expected on Lioden. We ask that users try to match Lioden's art style by adding shading and fine lineart.
  • For skins we're allowing more freedom in terms of art style, but to a degree of common sense.
  • Do not use art that does not belong to you or wasn't drawn by you.
  • If the art was made by somebody who gave you permission to use it, write in the item's description giving them credit. Example: Lovely Laughing Hyena! (Art by: #145023219)
  • Skin art must be drawn either by yourself or by someone on Lioden. Any art made by somebody outside of Lioden will be rejected.
  • Tracing over photos that you didn't take doesn't make it your art and isn't okay.
  • No pornographic, sexual, or gory images.
  • Memes are not permitted, but we will accept humorous images.
  • All submissions must abide by the Terms and Conditions of the site.

The rules may be added or changed at any time."

After carefully pasting the image links, following the instructions and filling it all out, you will be ready to submit your Beetle Skin! After you click on the "Create!" button, your submission will generate a ticket that can be viewed in the Modbox. Your ticket may take some time to be reviewed, as each skin has to be checked for mistakes and potential rule-breaks before it can be added to the game. The administrator will give you a response and either reject your decor or accept it - you will get a notification about this too!

If your Beetle Skin has been approved, you will receive 5 copies of your newly created Beetle Skin! If it was rejected, you will receive your Beetle Skin Maker item back to your Hoard, as well as an explanation for rejection of your decor.

Managing Beetle Skins

In order to manage your Beetle Skins, go to the Crossroads, then to the Branch Sales page. Once you're there, just click on the "View Your Beetle Skins" link.

After doing so, you will be redirect to the My Beetle Skins page. From there, you can manage all your Beetle Skins, one-by-one!

If you'd like to Generate a Copy of a Beetle Skin that you have created, you will need to click on the "Buy Copy?" button. Buying a copy of your own Beetle Skin costs 100 SB per copy.

Clicking on one of your submitted or approved Beetle Skins will reveal their full profile, along with their description, price or preview images!

Selling Your Skins

In order to set a price for your Beetle Skin and start selling additional copies to other players, go to the My Beetle Skins page, then simply set a price you wish to keep. Keep in mind that there is always an additional 100 SB fee for selling a copy to another player, which goes to the game, not to your account. If you want to receive 500 SB per copy, you should set it to 500 SB, and the game will ask the buyer to pay a total of 600 SB for the copy. The 100 SB fee still applies to any GB fees set. Setting both a SB and GB price will give players an option to buy your skin for either currency, not both at the same time.

Updating Your Skins

In case there are some mistakes in one of your versions of the skin, or if you'd like to retouch it a little bit, you can also choose to "Upload Version". Doing so will redirect you to your files management for the chosen skin, from which you will be able to update an additional version of your skin or replace an older version with a new one! Each change has to be approved by an administrator, and thus, it will generate a request ticket which will take some time to be reviewed.

Buying & Using Beetle Skins

If you want to spruce up your beetles' designs a little to something more original, you can go to the Crossroads, then to the Branch Sales page. Once you're there, just click on the "View Beetle Skin List" link. From there, you will be able to search via various criteria to match the skin to your preferences!

Purchased Beetle Skins can be found under your Hoard, in the "Beetle Skin" tab.

If you'd like to use it on your Beetle, please be sure to double-check which beetle you are equipping it to, as each beetle skin has only a single (1) use, which means that when your beetle dies, or when you unequip the skin after it has already been used on a beetle, it will disappear forever!

Once equipped to your beetle, the skin will display on their page and will match their age and gender. How cool!
