Environmentally-conscious encounters are a relatively new addition to Lioden. In August's development update in 2019, the site developers announced that they had come up with the idea after cleaning up trash within their own neighbourhoods, thus bringing knowledge and awareness of our ecosystem and environments to our lions in Africa.

Year-Round

These environmental encounters are found year-round and are not tied to specific events.

Hover over the icons in the upper right corner to see whether an encounter is available during daytime, nighttime, wet season, or dry season. If on mobile, you can tap the icons for the same effect.

A dense, dark fog rolls high above the ground. This is very unlike your typical damp morning mist. At first, you thought it meant there's a nearby fire, but… no. It smells like humans, like their dens and their cars. The air makes you feel like something is squeezing your lungs, and you just cannot get a breath deep enough to make you feel normal. Your throat is itching horribly. You hack and cough, trying to find a gust of fresh wind that would lead you away from here.
A familiar waterhole you enjoyed hanging out at seems to be overgrown with nasty-smelling, unappealing algae. The water is so green that it looks highly toxic. You dare not to enter. But... is it safe to drink?
Action Result Reward
Call Otters It's wet season, which means... otters! You rush to the otters' hangout, desperately asking them to bring as many mussels as they can manage to the waterhole. The mollusks will assist with the natural process of cleansing the water! +2 to 3 Karma
+1 Cozy Waterhole
Drink You dig a shallow hole in the muddy shore and wait for it to fill with the seeping water. You drink from it, hoping your belly won't punish you later. Your tongue slipped against something weird, so you decide to dig further down. ...What's that? +1 Drowned Rhino
Disgusting. Some nasty humans left their trash in your territory.
Action Result Reward
Rummage There must be something useful in here for a resourceful king such as yourself! +1 random item from the Elephant Dung Drops list
Clean Up You bury what you can to avoid the smell. It looks nicer, too. +2 to 3 Karma
-2% Energy
+1% Impression
Humans! You instinctively freeze, but after a few moments, you notice these humans aren't harmful. They aren't carrying any weapons and don't appear to be a threat. It looks as though they're cleaning up trash left in the vicinity by others.
Action Result Reward
Observe You sit down and observe the humans calmly, throwing in exaggerated stretches when you notice they're taking pictures of you. You like them. They're nice! Maybe you'll follow their example and clean up your den later? +1% Impression
Oh, no! This White Stork has swallowed a long piece of plastic and seems to be choking!
Action Result Reward
Wait You wait for death to reap the string of life from this poor animal. It's not your fault, really - the filthy humans are the ones that caused this. But… that doesn't mean you can't use this to your own advantage. -4 to -5 Karma
+1 Medium Meat Chunk
Save It You approach the stork gently, doing your best to avoid scaring them any further. You pull lightly on the plastic. Thankfully, it slips out easily from the bird's throat. Examining the piece of plastic afterwards, you're truly shocked at how long it was - it must have went in pretty far down! The bird shakes and flies off, leaving you with some tokens of gratitude. +4 to 5 Karma
+2 Stork Feather
Spotting a large herd of cattle gathering around waterholes, you crouch down and silently observe. These waterholes used to be frequented by elephants, gazelle, and zebras. You snarl to yourself, realising that the presence of humans is scaring the wild animals away from drinking!
Action Result Reward
Roar The roar worked! Humans are just simple herders and don't want to face a lion. They gather their panicked cattle and move away quickly. You wander around the site for a while, growling and roaring, until you've made sure that all wild animals can use this place freely. +1% Impression
+1 Wild Waterhole
Prowl You observe the cattle and immediately pick your favourite: the biggest, fattest cow. You circle around, undetected, until you ambush the herd! The cows panic, causing a few to fall into the water. Finally, when the animals have dispersed, you find the drowned corpse of a cow that could not escape the slippery mud. -5 to -6 Karma
+1 Drowned Cow
Storks and other birds choose to find their food in a landfill, rather than make the effort to hunt among the tall grass.
Action Result Reward
Pounce You pounce at the storks, catching one that couldn't escape from a plastic tarp. The meat was disgusting, but… the feathers are okay. +1 Stork Feather (Very High Chance)
+1 Instant Cub Delivery (Very Low Chance)
Rummage Hmm. You find something neat! +1 Broken Camera
or +1 Broken Drone
or +1 Coal
or +1 Helicopter's Tail Rotor
or +1 Rugged Tire
or +1 UAV - Search and Rescue
The sight of an empty, overgrazed woodland makes you check the surrounding scents carefully for any threats. You can easily pick up on the smell of cattle manure, covering anything of importance. There could be humans wandering about...
Action Result Reward
Search Initiates a battle with a Shady Poacher. Acts as a regular battle, so you can gain SB, Experience, and Impression if the battle is won.
Scavenge You find a fresh carcass. It seems as though it broke a leg and humans couldn't take this heavy load with them. +1 Cow Carcass
You find a fully-rotted carcass. The skull looks clean enough. +1 Cow Skull
The sound of struggling prey catches your attention. This poor gazelle is caught up in a wire - possibly some trash left by humans a long, long time ago.
Action Result Reward
Rescue You grab a nearby kudu horn and use it to free the frightened gazelle. It's very impressed that you chose to spare it! It doesn't leave without giving you some shiny beetles in return for your kindness. +5 to 6 Karma

+1 Dama Gazelle Carcass
This area is impassable. The trash pile that the inconsiderate humans left to rot is simply too big and too dangerous to walk through!
Action Result Reward
Rummage Oh wait, what's this? This looks like fun! It feels amazing against your fangs as you bite down on it. Your pride will love this! +1 Rugged Tire

You find some goats eating human garbage. They don't seem to mind it.

+1 Goat Carcass
Praise Watching the goats devour literally everything in their path is… quite mesmerising. You thank the goats for cleaning up. It was so fascinating to watch that you accidentally took a longer rest than expected! +2 to 3 Karma

You hear elephant activity nearby and decide to check it out. A young female elephant is digging in a human landfill, curious to find any unusual treats or toys. A lot of this rotting food is probably not suitable for the consumption of lions and elephants alike.
Action Result Reward
Dig You ultimately decide it's worth the risk and begin to search for some rotten, but edible, food. Not a good example, buddy! -2 to -3 Karma
+1 Half Eaten Elephant Carcass
-2 to -3 Karma
+1 Half Eaten Rhino Carcass
Educate You approach the elephant and try to explain that this junk is very toxic. Just because it may be easily accessible, that doesn't mean it should be used. The diseases created and spread by humans are very hard to fight with the natural resources animals have. The elephant agrees and tosses you a gift of gratitude, straight from a nearby tree. +5 to 6 Karma
+1 Leopard's Meal
+5 to 6 Karma
+1 Styx Fur
Attack Initiates a battle with a Female Elephant. Acts as a regular battle, so you can gain SB, Experience, and Impression if the battle is won.

or +1 Broken Drone
or +1 Coal
or +1 Helicopter's Tail Rotor

You stop suddenly in your tracks, chilled straight down to the bone at the sight before you. A forest used to be in this very spot. It offered you shade and protection. Now, everything smells like bleeding wood.
Action Result Reward
Roar You roar out in anger, swiping and sharpening your claws on the remaining stumps, ready to avenge the forest on those who massacred it. Those trees belonged to everyone, and somebody stole them! +1% Energy

You take a trip to visit a secluded, overgrown spot at your favourite lake. The water always tastes so great there! Sadly, once you arrive, it does not seem so secluded anymore... Some humans decided to dump their trash all around the lake.
Action Result Reward
Gather Help You call upon the monkeys of the forest and organise a clean up crew. They promise to dump the trash on human roads, after they've picked up any interesting items as payment, of course. This lake should stay clean! +5 to 6 Karma
+1 Clean Lake
Drink the Water You drink the water, but it doesn't taste very refreshing. Even the fish within the lake seem dazed, swimming lazily along the murky bank. You manage to pick one up with your teeth easily. +1% Energy

It looks like some humans are burning down a forest to make space for farmlands.
Action Result Reward
Observe You sit down and observe them from a distance as the flames swallow the woodland you enjoyed using for shade. Before you walk away, you let out a roar of despair, which echoes off in the distance. At least you managed to find some cattle bones at the edge of the burning lands. +4 Dry Bones
+1% Impression
Lured by the sound of water, you travel down a slope to find a river. Eventually you find it, but… It's so polluted that you just cannot find a clear spot to drink from. You walk along the shore, getting frustrated as never-ending lines of trash litter the banks, essentially sentencing all animals to death. It's better to go somewhere else.
+5% Energy

You remember that there used to be a forest here, but it's since been cut down by humans. The land is now dry and a dune appears to be overtaking the waterhole. You take a sip from what's left.
